Fall Activities For Seniors
Autumn presents the perfect opportunity for seniors to embrace the crisp, fresh air and engage in seasonal activities. At The Village at Woods Edge, we believe the autumn season is made for celebrating the great outdoors and enjoying cozy evenings with friends.
Join us as we explore some of the best autumn activities for seniors. From outdoor projects to seasonal arts and crafts, autumn in our community is all about staying active and enjoying abundant autumnal beauty. Where will the season take you?
Outdoor Projects and Gardening
As the leaves change colors and shrubs burst with berries, it's the perfect time to embrace the great outdoors. If you love gardening or just working in the fresh air, why not give yourself a fall project? Get your hands dirty and design an autumn planter pot filled with mums and ornamental cabbage. It's also a great time of year for planting a tree or preparing garden beds for late season produce. These activities offer a perfect opportunity to connect with nature. They also help create a sense of well-being and accomplishment.
Autumn brings with it shorter days and harder ground. Birds and other wildlife can find it difficult to forage for food. If you love DIY projects or consider yourself handy, why not whip up a feed table for our feathered and furry friends? Even better, make this a group activity in which like-minded animal lovers can participate. Not only will you be doing a good deed, but you'll also get to watch the wildlife visit your table for a bite.
Pro Tip: Autumn gardening can include planting cool-weather crops like kale or setting up colorful fall displays with pumpkins, hay bales, and corn stalks.
Fall Arts and Crafts
Let your creativity shine with autumn-themed arts and crafts. From decorating pumpkins and squash to making autumn wreaths using natural materials, there's something to suit all skill levels. These hands-on projects offer a great way to embrace the season and engage in a group activity that encourages social bonding with friends. Crafting allows you to relax, tap into your creative energy, and improve your fine motor skills.
Here are just some of the fall art projects you may want to try:
- Pumpkin painting or decorating
- Wreath making with autumn leaves and pine cones
- Creating autumn-themed centerpieces
- Knitting or crocheting cozy fall items (scarves, blankets)
- Pressed leaf art for decorating fabrics or cards
If the weather allows, set up a table outside. Make hot chocolate, put on the radio, and let your creative spirit free.
Seasonal Social Events
At The Village at Woods Edge, autumn is all about celebrating our community. It's where we can meet indoors or outside to connect and enjoy time together. Our seasonal social events calendar is packed with autumn activities. Whether it's a harvest festival, a bonfire night, or a weekend hiking trip, there are many things to look forward to in the fall season.
An autumn-favorite community activity is sipping hot cocoa by the Back Porch & Grille firepit, in addition to the various events offered around the Franklin area during this time of year. Having such a fun and varied events schedule means our residents always have opportunities to be involved and connect with fellow residents.
The greater Franklin area abounds with chances to celebrate the season. Check out the Franklin Market on Main, which runs through mid- November, and browse the selection of fresh produce and locally made goods. In addition, the Homegrown Festival celebrates its second year of festivities this year! The festival is in the beginning of October and features incredible food, music, and a wholesome fall atmosphere. Or pop downtown on the evening of October 24th to enjoy the Downtown Franklin Boo Bash. While you visit the shops or enjoy a meal, you'll see kids dressed up for trick-or-treating at local businesses to get you into the Halloween spirit.
Culinary Activities and Cooking
Savory soups, seasonal produce, and delicious desserts are just some of the culinary delights of fall. Autumn flavors are a big part of the season, and what better way to celebrate than by spending time in the kitchen?
Residents at The Village at Woods Edge can take part in seasonal cooking demonstrations and tastings. From making homemade apple cider to preparing hearty casseroles, our cooking activities are designed to bring comfort and warmth to the fall season.
When you don't feel like cooking, why not dine among locals and residents at The Back Porch and Grille? Here you can sample Southern comfort foods indoors, or claim a sunny spot on the patio.
